On March 25, Roulette, the wonderful (and historic!) NYC venue for contemporary and experimental music, is presenting “ALERTA!”, a retrospective of some of composer/pianist Gordon Beeferman’s recent chamber, solo, and vocal music. Gordon will be performing alongside truly stellar colleagues who are brave enough to take on these often wild, super challenging scores:

Alerta! Antifascista, for soprano Alice Teyssier and ensemble, is based on anti-fascist texts and chants spanning multiple languages and decades, from 1930s Berlin to the Jim Crow South to Trump-era USA.Apocalypscapades are decadently virtuosic piano pieces drawing on feelings of the perpetual effort, futility, excitement, desperation, danger, and absurdity of living in our times, taking pianists to (and sometimes past) their limits. The Sway is a solo work for dynamo Boston violinist/vocalist/improviser Eden MacAdam-Somer, with Gordon’s original texts. First NYC performance.Tunnel Visions is a sprawling, harrowing journey for viola and piano through microtonal and cinematic landscapes, propelled by rigorous and constantly-changing rhythm. The piece was commissioned by our dear-departed friend Peter Pohly and premiered on the first ever Momenta Festival. I will be performing with the composer himself on piano

If you can’t be there in person, Roulette will have a livestream, linked on the event page.
